Summer at Runnymede
As we say goodbye to summer, we reflect on all the fun experiences we’ve had over the last few months. From Vacation Bible Camp to refreshing lemonade on the lawn and basking in God’s creation while on holiday. Here are some of our favourite moments from this summer:
Rev. Laura’s Ordination
On June 8th, our incredible Engagement and Growth Minister, Laura Gallagher-Doucette, was ordained at the Shining Waters Celebration of Ministries service. Laura's dedication to Runnymede United over the past three years has been outstanding, and we were delighted to celebrate this milestone with her!
Vacation Bible Camp
We started July off strong with Vacation Bible Camp. In honour of the Summer 2024 Olympics, this year’s theme was “Olympic-Sized Faith.” From the 8th to the 12th, we had kids—both from our congregation and from the community—learn about faith with engaging activities. The kids got crafty and made their own Olympic torches, sang catchy tunes, and were put to the test with a fun scavenger hunt! We’re grateful to our volunteers who played an essential role in the success of the camp, and we can’t wait to see what next year has in store!
PRIDE
In June, Runnymede United celebrated Pride Month and our status as an affirming congregation. We supported Toronto Pflag’s Pride sign-making event, where members of our community created vibrant posters, and on June 30th, we were all smiles as we represented our church during Toronto’s Pride March.
Summer Newsletter Highlights
We incorporated a segment called “RUC Summer Highlights,” into our weekly newsletter for people to share pictures of how they’ve spent their summer and we had some great submissions. Whether it’s a cozy cottage getaway, an exotic trip to another corner of the world, or an escape into the depths of nature, it was evident that members of our congregation had a wonderful summer. Thanks to all who sent in their pictures!
